CHERY OMODA E5 RECEIVES SIRIM CERTIFICATION FOR ELECTRIC VEHICLE BATTERY

KUALA LUMPUR, 19 DECEMBER – Chery Malaysia has obtained the SIRIM certification for its Electric Vehicle (EV) Battery Pack – Lithium Battery, marking a first for a vehicle brand in the country. The recognition by SIRIM QAS International, Malaysia’s leading certification, inspection and testing body, is a proof of Chery’s commitment to quality and compliance to the highest performance and safety standards.

“This achievement signifies more than a certification; it reflects Malaysia’s progress in adopting globally recognized safety and quality standards. This certification highlights Chery’s dedication to sustainable mobility solutions and solidifies its position as a leader in the electric vehicle industry and its Chery’s local environmental sustainability and governance (ESG) efforts.

The EV battery was witnessed undergoing rigorous testing in China in accordance with the UN R100 standard to ensure compliance to international safety and performance standards for reliability, efficiency and durability.

The SIRIM certification is particularly significant for the Malaysian public as it ensures that Chery’s electric vehicles are equipped with EV batteries that meets the stringent safety and quality standards.

The certification also provides Malaysian consumers with added assurance that they are investing in a vehicle that is not only innovative but also safe and reliable.

Furthermore, it aligns with Malaysia’s effort in promoting sustainable development and reducing the carbon footprint, contributing to a cleaner and greener environment for future generations.

At present, Chery’s only all-electric vehicle offered to the Malaysian market is the OMODA E5, priced at RM146,800 and is available in Aqua Green, Khaki White, Phantom Grey and Dark Black. The OMODA E5 is powered by a 61kWh high-capacity lithium-iron phosphate blade battery ensuring long-range and swift charging while enhancing its eco-friendliness. Delivering an impressive 201hp and 340Nm of torque, while boasting a remarkable Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) 430km range.

In October, Chery celebrated its first Completely Knocked Down (CKD) unit of the OMODA E5 from its production line at the Inokom Plant in Kulim, Kedah.

The OMODA E5 has also earned the prestigious five-star safety ratings from both the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP) and the Australasian New Car Assessment Programme (ANCAP).

Chery Malaysia is also looking forward to obtaining SIRIM certification for its electric vehicle batteries for its upcoming fleet of vehicles that will be offered in Malaysia.

As Chery expands its footprint in the region, it remains dedicated to sustainable growth and enhancing customer satisfaction through a continuous flow of innovative products and services focusing on the development of new energy vehicles and the exploration of cleaner, more efficient green energy technologies. To further boost its electro-mobility efforts across Malaysia, Chery plans to significantly expand its range of electrified vehicles (xEVs) beyond battery electric vehicles (BEVs) to include plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) next year.
